Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 60 college hours in Early Childhood or related field, (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
  • Must possess current Kansas driver’s license
  • Experience working with families/children (birth to Kindergarten) preferred

Reports To: Parents as Teachers Coordinator

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

This Parent Educator position is primarily responsible for delivering child development information to parents/caregivers for children birth to Kindergarten entry in the child’s natural environment, within Unified School District 475 boundaries.  All work is performed in accordance with the Parents as Teachers Curriculum and USD 475 policies and procedures.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.        The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach.  The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds.  The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people.  The employee is responsible for the work output of others.  The employee occasionally works extended hours.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide personalized home visits for families of birth to Kindergarten entry to inform parents/caregivers about the stages of child development using the evidence-based Parents as Teachers curriculum and additional literacy-based curriculum approved for the Parents as Teachers Program.  2. Maximize resources by coordinating/collaborating with other community organizations and agencies to enhance support for families in need of medical, financial, or other assistance.  3. Assist with planning and organizing group connection meetings with an emphasis on child development and literacy acquisition for children birth to Kindergarten entry. 4. Provide periodic monitoring and formal screening to ensure that developmental delays, health and social/emotional concerns are detected and the proper referral(s) have been made. 5. Facilitate scheduled playtimes for families with children birth to Kindergarten entry. 6. Promote the Parents as Teachers program by recruiting families through various means such as: mailings, presentations and distributing fliers. 7. Complete all required reporting in an accurate and timely manner. 8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Term of Employment:  12 months  

Salary Range:   Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated a minimum of one time per year.
