Sr. Communications Specialist

 

Reports To:   Director of Communications

 

Supervises:  

 

Position Purpose:     To assist the Director of Communications in making known appropriate district information both internally and externally. This position will be responsible for planning and implementation of a variety of special projects/events- assisting with the district’s social media presence- graphic design- and serve as the back-up spokesperson for the district.

 

Qualifications:           BS in communications- mass media or other related field- 2 years prior directly related experience- skills in public relations and technical communications such as writing- photography- graphic design and electronic media are required. 

 

Skills:

Strong understanding of social media platforms

Eye for detail

Strong writing abilities

Graphic design skills utilizing Adobe Suite products including InDesign & Photoshop

Some evenings and weekends required

The incumbent must communicate effectively through writing- speaking and varied electronics mediums; and be a positive influence in developing- maintaining and encouraging a quality working climate.

 

Physical/Emotional Requirements:  (The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.) The incumbent should have quality eye/hand coordination- be mobile and able to drive. Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations.

  

Performance Responsibilities:      

Communication Skills:

Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to targeted audiences

Excellent grammar and proofreading skills

Understanding of AP style

On camera media experience preferred

Public speaking a must

Drafting media releases and newsletters

Graphic Design

 

Special Events/Projects:

Plan events from start to finish including annual staff awards- longevity awards and student awards

Establish timelines and ensure all aspects of the award program are met

Maintain databases and documentation for all events from year to year

 

Online and Broadcast Marketing

Monitor various social media venues for troubleshooting and awareness

Leverage and enhance existing social media accounts to tell the district’s story

Develop written news stories for placement on social media networks and district cable channel

Attend district and community events to support coverage of key stories

Use measurement tools including Google Analytics to evaluate existing work- recommend strategies to grow engagement on district platforms

 

Media Relations:

Serve as a back-up for media contacts and on-camera spokesperson.

  

Terms of Employment:       

12 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
