School Nurse

USD 204 Bonner Springs/Edwardsville is now accepting applications for an Elementary School Nurse for Edwardsville Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year.  The qualified applicant will: 

  • Hold a valid and current Kansas Nursing License
  • Have a Registered Nursing Degree
  • Have a minimum of one (1) year of relevant nursing experience


Essential Functions and General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidential health files on students and staff
  • Notify the proper authorities when serious concerns are noted
  • Assist students and staff with maintaining an optimum level of physical, social, and emotional health
  • Ensure that building activities conform to district guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff, as well as district and community members
  • Operate health equipment appropriately as required
  • Conduct student health appraisals at specified intervals, including vision and hearing exams, weight and height, medical exams etc.
  • Maintain immunization records for each student
  • Communicate with parents regarding immunization records
  • Provide faculty and staff with first aid training and supplies
  • Provide emergency care for accidents and sudden illnesses of students until parent assumes responsibility
  • Notify administrator and parent(s) of students who become severely ill or injured
  • Monitor and enforce medication guidelines
  • Dispense medication to those students who require medication at school
  • Coordinate and supervise a dental health program for students in need
  • Assist in planning health curriculum and materials
  • Encourage periodic health examinations for all children
  • Counsel with teachers, students, and parents concerning children’s individual health problems
  • Maintain a cumulative health folder for each student, recording all pertinent data
  • Submit accurate and timely reports as required by various health agencies
  • Order and maintain supplies for the health service program
  • Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Attend periodic district Nursing Team Meetings to collaborate with peers
  • Serve as Building Wellness Committee Representative
