The Kansas City- Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22-000 students. With a Head Start program- three preschools- 30 elementary schools- 8 middle schools- and 5 college and career academies/high schools- the district serves a wonderfully diverse mixture of students. A remarkable 62 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. To serve those students- the district employs approximately 3-650 staff- including more than 1-600 teachers.

JOB GOAL: Directly responsible to the head coach of a sport.  The assistant coach will be expected

to exhibit total loyalty to the program- the head coach- and the other assistants at all times. The assistant coach will be required to carry out all assignments given to him by the head coach.



  • Assist the head coach as directed with the following:       
  • Organize and direct coaching staff
  • Collecting physical examination forms
  • Collecting insurance release forms
  • Reporting injuries to school nurse
  • Taking inventory and submitting a list of equipment needs
  • Checking out and collecting all equipment
  • Keeping accurate records and reports of lost or stolen equipment
  • Providing a roster of players

Providing the Athletic Director a list of athletes who are to receive awards at the end of the season and plan the awards ceremony

  • Insuring proper team conduct on trips and during contests
  • Knowing all rules pertaining to his or her sport
  • Treating of injuries or attending to athletes
  • Cleaning and Maintenance of equipment and uniforms
  • Organizing practice sessions.



  • Certified teacher or qualify for Rule 10 certification through the Kansas State High Schoo Activities Association.
  • Succsesful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Current certification in CPR and AED


Speak clearly and concisely in written and oral form. Maintain communication with all constituents including district staff. Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties. Organize work efficiently in order to support the mission and vision of Kansas City- Kansas Public Schools.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written- oral- diagram- or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read- analyze- and interpret general business periodicals- professional journals- technical procedures- or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external sources.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. Coach is directly responsible for students’ safety- work output and well-being. RATE OF PAY:           Based on the KCKPS Supplemental Pay Schedule




REPORT TO:              Athletic Director or Building Administrator


EVALUATION:           Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the                                            Board`s policy on Evaluation and Professional Personnel.
