Russell County USD 407 is dedicated to providing a culture of learning that will lead the state of Kansas in student success.
Unified School District 407 is a comprehensive K-12 school system. The district operates 4 attendance centers; Russell High School (9-12), Ruppenthal Middle School (6-8), Bickerdyke Elementary School (2-5) and Simpson Elementary School (K-1). All attendance centers are accredited with the State Department of Education.

CURRICULUM
The Outcomes-Based Curriculum in USD 407 focuses on basic skills and concept development at the elementary level, with greater diversity at the secondary level where both academic and vocational offerings are available. District-level exit outcomes have been established for all Russell graduates.
The elementary schools provide an excellent focus on skill development in reading, language arts, and mathematics. A pre-school handicap classroom is available for students whose developmental maturity is delayed. All elementary schools provide instruction in art, computer, library, music, and physical education.
USD 407 has a complete K-12 computer outcomes based curriculum. Students begin at the kindergarten level and progress sequentially through to the high school level. Each attendance center has a minimum of one computer lab. One elementary school has a multi-media lab, and each middle school and high school has a minimum of one technology lab. Each attendance center is also connected to the internet by way of WAN.
Vocational programs are also a substantial part of the high school curriculum. An Apprentice Program is available to regular education students and a Great Expectations program is provided for special education students.

USD 407 has a complete program of interscholastic activities and is in full compliance with Title IX.
