Reports To: Senior Network Specialist
The Network Specialist will be a highly skilled and very hands-on individual – and most importantly- a team player. Responsible for the planning- engineering and support of Topeka Public Schools network infrastructure. This position is the primary resource for implementation- validating designs with the network team- maintenance and troubleshooting support of Topeka Public Schools LAN- WAN- Wireless- and network for the schools facilities.
Distinguishing Career Features:
The Network Specialist I is the first level in a broad-based career ladder encompassing network administration and date communications. Advancement along this ladder can occur through mastery of server and network administration. The Network Technical Specialist I is capable of basic network operations- account setup and security- conducting training in specialized software- and providing setup- connection- and configuration of workstations to an existing server.
The Network Specialist II requires the ability to independently maintain a dedicated server- know routers- switches and TCP/IP addressing; this includes the ability to install server- Certified Network Administrator (CNA) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification- or equivalent knowledge is required.
The Senior Network Specialist requires the ability to develop applications in the software occupying servers on several platforms- the knowledge of and ability to configure servers- and the ability to perform network programming. The Network Analyst requires the equivalent knowledge to one of the following certificates: Certified Network Administrator- Microsoft Certified Professional- or Cisco Certified Network Associate.
