Halstead Middle School is a progressive school that houses 320 students in grades PK, 4-8 and employs 45 certified and classified employees. USD 440 is a 3A school district within a 25 minute driving distance to Wichita, 10 minute drive to Newton and a 25 minute drive to Hutchinson. USD 440 provides 14 Career and Technical Education pathways for students to prepare themselves for post-secondary opportunities. Staff have access to a variety of technology resources including smart boards, chrome books, computer labs, iPads, 3D printers, and STEM Labs. All schools in USD 440 are in the process of school redesign under the guidance of KSDE. Class sizes typically range from 20 or fewer and all teachers are content specific. USD 440 is a progressive school district and excels in both academics and athletics. Schools consistently rank above the state average in both state assessment and ACT results.
