Vocal Music Accompanist - Classified Position

Unified School District 428 seeks applicants for a full-time Vocal Music Accompanist at Great Bend Middle School.  Teaching license is not required.  The classified personnel position is for days when students are in class, starting approximately August 19, 2018.  There will also be occasional evening events throughout the year.


The pianist will provide musical accompaniment for vocal music students and will fulfill other relevant duties assigned by the teacher and the building administrators.  The accompanist must respond to middle school students and fellow employees with cooperation, patience, and professionalism.

Position:                          Accompanist for Middle School Choir


Supervisor:                     Principal of Great Bend Middle School

                                        Vocal music instructor at Great Bend Middle School

Contract:                         The position is for six and one-half (6 ½) hours on days when students are in class.  Tentative daily routine:  8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., and 12:00 noon - 3:30 p.m.  Other details are defined in the Classified Employees’ Handbook



  • High school diploma, with post-secondary education preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in public relations.
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations with students and fellow employees.
  • Prompt in job-related functions and in work schedule.
  • Effective organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Adherence to ethical work habits.
  • Other, as immediate supervisor deems appropriate and necessary.

Job Functions:                

  • Provide musical/piano accompaniment for vocal music students.
  • Effectively accompany soloists as well as singers of multiple-part selections.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and organization.
  • Assist with grading papers, as requested.
  • Respond to students of middle school age with care, patience, and professionalism.
  • Perform relevant duties as assigned by the teacher and the building principal.
