Director of Teaching and Learning or Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning

Abilene Schools USD #435 is looking for an instructional leader to guide the district as a Director of Teaching and Learning or Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.  The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:  assuring fidelity with our K-12 Multi-Tiered System of Supports, supporting our Mental Health Staff Collaboration and overseeing our K-8 After School Program.  This person will also submit several State and Federal reports throughout the year, assist with district budgeting and maintain a collaborative relationship with our building-level administrators and superintendent. The ability to communicate clearly in speech and writing is a must. Qualifications:

1. Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum Development

2. Five Years or More Administrative Experience.

3. Five Years or More Teaching Experience.

4. Knowledge of best practices in teaching.

5. Understanding of Kansas Multi-Tiered System of Supports.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Ability to make administrative decisions in the Superintendent’s absence.

2. Provide direction for local curriculum development and continuity.

3. Assist in the evaluation and improvement of instruction processes.

4. Chair or act as an ex officio member on all curriculum development committees.

5. Direct and monitor the District selection of instructional resources, including a long-range adoption plan.

6. Assist in the development of appropriate technology programs.

7. Assist in the development of a District vision and help determine parameters and expectations for pursuing this vision.

8. Oversee the organization of the local Professional Development Council.

9. Assist the Superintendent in the organization of all staff development.

10. Write and monitor all district, federal and state grants.

11. Assist in the recruitment, selection and assignment of staff.

12. Assist in public relations activities including district newsletters, news releases, bulletins to staff and patrons, building visitations, etc.

13. Coordinate other support programs as requested by the Board of Education or Superintendent (including, but not limited to: KESA, Title, ELL, Homeless, After School, DCLE (Dickinson County Learning Center), Virtual School, Wellness, State Assessments, KIDS Student Information System, Vision Therapy, Carl Perkins Fund, Vocational, E-rate, etc.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

1. Requires prolonged sitting, standing, and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.

2. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials repetitively.

3. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.

 

General Responsibilities:

1. Facilitate professional learning and monitor licensure considerations.

2. Conduct teacher induction process.

3. Assume a leadership role with regard to accreditation.

4. Participate in teacher hiring process.

5. Support teacher evaluation process.

6. Oversee compliance considerations.

7. Facilitate data-based decision making with board of education and administration.

8. Provide periodic direction for administrative staff and teachers.

9. Prepare annual district learning report.

10. Be a positive representative of the school district throughout the community.
