Deerfield`s population is approximately 800 and is located in Kearny County in Southwestern Kansas.  Primarily a rural district, Deerfield is nestled on the western plains of Kansas located along Highway 50/400 just 14 miles west of Garden City.  Deerfield is a wonderful friendly small farming community in which to live and raise a family.  The community takes pride in their schools and supports activities.  Our schools are located at the corner of 8th and Beech street on the west side of town.

USD 216 Deerfield serves students Pre-K through 12th grade on a four day work week, Monday through Thursday for students and staff and typically has 200 to 225 students. Our 1A school district is very proud of our academic success and our advanced technology.   The district`s mission statement is "Students Achievement is NUMBER ONE!"  The district`s vision will ensure all students will be college and career ready upon graduation by providing the best education available through quality instruction and a rigorous curriculum.  USD 216 expects students to assume equal responsibility for their learning.

All classrooms are equipped with a wireless network throughout the district and all the buildings are air conditioned.  1 to 1 Chrome Book initiative was developed and implemented with Google Docs for grades K through 12th.  A full time technology coordinator is on staff.  Out of district enrollment is accepted and encouraged.

The district is a member of the High Plains Special Education Cooperative and the Southwest Plains Regional Service Center.  The district`s Building Leadership Council is active which provides guidance and support for the educational programs.    An after school program for elementary and middle school is implemented through district funds.

Deerfield Elementary is comprised of a preschool program through fifth grade.  The emphasis is the basics of reading, writing, and math.  Our philosophy is that the children of the community need to master essential standards in order to be more successful in their later years.  The foundation of our reading program is a well-trained teaching staff and the use of literature/phonics in teaching reading skills to the students.  Grades Pre-K-5 implemented Go Math in 2018-2019 and Journeys Reading in 2014-2015.  A focus of the board of education is to maintain small class sizes therefore the average class size in the elementary is seventeen.

Federal and state student support services are comprised of Migrant Education, Family Literacy through the Title One programs, Special Education, Bilingual Education, At Risk, and Four Year Old At Risk Programs.

Deerfield Middle School includes 6th through 8th grades.  The Science Curriculum is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards, Big Ideas, Journeys, Collections Series, Literature Based Reading, Go Math and other strategies are implemented.

Deerfield High School includes 9th through 12th grades.
