Athletic Director

JOB DESCRIPTION – Athletic Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a valid Kansas driver’s license with the ability to drive an automobile or van at all hours.

2. Ability to spend multiple evenings away from home including weekends.

3. Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others as set by KSHSAA and the USD #307 Board of Education.

4. Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting the established district outcomes.

 

REPORTS TO: Building principal/superintendent

 

JOB GOAL: The Athletic Director is to assist the building/district administrator with the routine operations of the athletic program, maintain records, and organize and complete all work required for well operating programs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Complete all correspondence necessary to manage the athletic program.

2. Maintain all files and records pertaining to the operation of athletic programs.

3. Provide supervision at athletic events as assigned by the building administrator.

4. Supply any information for reports about the athletic program(s) as requested by the administration or the board.

5. Prepare schedules of all athletic programs.

6. Assist Administration with monitoring the scholastic eligibility of student participants in activity programs pursuant with KSHSAA and local regulations.

7. Assist building secretary and coaches to maintain records of parent permission slips, health insurance documents and student participant physical forms.

8. Work with coaches to develop practice schedules.

9. Prepare transportation requests for all athletic events.

10. Keep the transportation director advised of transportation requirements and needs for activity programs 7-12.

11. Notify all involved parties of cancellation and postponements of activities due to inclement weather.

12. Prepare lists of game officials, who have agreed to game assignments, and submit list and payment amount to the building secretary.

13. Articulates coaching objectives to those of the school and the district.

14. Maintains an environment conducive to learning and to good sportsmanship.

15. Practices and enforces high standards of disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior and establishes and enforces penalties for breach of such standards.

16. Attends League and KSHSAA meetings as assigned.

17. Submit completed schedules to the building secretary and maintain a file of signed contracts.

18. Daily Responsibilities:

a. Insures that all KSHSAA rules and regulations are enforced.

b. Prepares requisitions for purchasing athletic equipment and supplies.

c. Supervise coaching personnel.

d. Organize and directs coaches on athletic budget orders.

e. Communicates with bookkeeper the tickets and currency and accounts for and deposit monies collected.

f. Communicates with coach to contact media on game results and tournament information.

g. Assures accuracy of athletic schedules and calendars.

h. Arranges for athletic awards.

i. Prepares event contracts for all athletic events; reviews contracts and schedule activities under KSHSAA guidelines; and notify school of any changes in game times and/or locations.

j. Assign officials to all sub-varsity contests; makes certain athletic policies are followed; and keeps records and makes reports on all programs as required.

19. Athletic Events:

a. Home Events: Ensure starting the event(s) on time, check locker rooms, necessary equipment is available, clocks functioning and supervision as assigned by the principal.

b. Welcome visiting teams as ambassador to community.

c. Observes and manages student behavior at athletic events, or will make arrangements for supervision.

d. Assures safety is provided for game officials.

e. Arranges for locker room arrangements for home and visiting teams.

f. Prepares necessary arrangements for officials.

g. Supervises workers at events; sets up scorekeeping and timekeeping devices; arranges for sound system; coordinates pregame, half-time and post-game schedules; and sets up/oversees necessary equipment for activities.

h. Contact and secure workers for home events.

i.  Apply to host post season events. (regional and sub-state tournaments)

20. Summer Responsibilities:

a. Checks accuracy of equipment orders received throughout summer.

b. Distributes new equipment to respective coaches.

c. Assures readiness and safety for athletic fields and facilities.

d. Assists in scheduling practice sessions.

21. Manages athletic inventories for programs. Responsible for inventory of all equipment.

22. Provide an orientation meeting to coaches and assistant coaches.

23. Attend post season athletic events.  (regionals, district, sub-state, and state playoff games.)

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support the mission of the school district.

2. Participate in professional development activities.

3. Facilitate cooperation between all persons in the school community.

4. Follow district policies, handbooks, and regulations.

5. Complete training required by the district and KSHSAA.

6. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and in accordance with the provisions of the USD #307 Board of Education.
