Job Summary

Manage the handling of school district money- assists in administering the annual budget to ensure efficient operation of the district and depositing funds in depositories designated by the Board of Education- enabling the Board to concentrate maximum attention towards the development of policy- the central challenge of education- and the generalized overall effective operation of the school district.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the area of accounting- school business management or related fields- preferred
  • Preparation and/or experience in the area of fiscal management for an organization and/or company

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare- administer- and monitor the annual school district budget as required by statutes and in accordance with the district’s goals and objectives.
  • Manage the district financial program to ensure that expenditures do not exceed the allotted budget. See that compliance with local- state and federal statues; rules and regulations are met in regard to purchasing procedures and all other fiscal procedures.
  • Receive all district revenue and ensure that proper receipts are recorded and credited to the appropriate funds.
  • Reconcile all district bank accounts- and balance cash to ledgers (cash summary).
  • Prepare all general journal entries for all funds.
  • Plan- organize- and direct the work of the district’s business office- including accounting- budget preparation; receipts and disbursement of funds; investments; risk management; and internal auditing.
  • Figure and pay sales tax for the elementary schools to the Kansas Department of Revenue.
  • Manage grants and donations made to the district.
  • Assist the Superintendent in developing and implementing short- and long-range goals and objectives/ strategic plans.
  • On a continuous basis- advise the Board of Education and Superintendent of the financial status of the district.
  • Administer and monitor the monetary and budget of the Federal Programs (Title I- Title II-A- Title III- Migrant) and State Programs (At-Risk- ESOL- Parents as Teachers- etc.).
  • Serve as a facilitator for all district audits- including the KSDE audit- Workers Comp audit and independent audit by Varneys & Associates. Work with the auditors during the processes- and receive follow-up reports. Send copies of audit reports to all financial institutions requesting them.
  • Support the USD 473 Mission and Irish Foundations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and in accordance with the provisions of the USD 473 Board of Education.

  • Knowledge and proficiency in general school district business- as well as working knowledge of computers and software with proficiency in the use of spreadsheets.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Required to perform basic math including; calculations using fractions- percent’s- and/or ratios.
  • Read for understanding on a variety of manuals- policy books- and documents.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to make decisions based on relevant information.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities- meet deadlines and schedules- and work with constant interruptions.
  • Strong organizational skills and a self-starter.
  • Exhibit professionalism and business telephone etiquette.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Physical Demands  

 

While performing the duties of this job- the employee is frequently required to walk- sit- talk and hear.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision- distance vision- depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. On occasion the employee may be required to work extended hours. This job is performed in a clean and healthy environment.
