ESOL Program Coordinator (Manhattan-Ogden USD 383)

TITLE: ESOL Program Coordinator (Secondary 6-12) 



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required  
  • Valid State Teaching Certificate with ESOL endorsement or equivalent  
  • Five years ELL teaching experience or related supervisory experience in comparable program 
  • Experience working with and addressing needs of culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. 
  • Strong commitment to diversity and cultural inclusion initiatives in educational settings. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form and make clear, persuasive presentations to diverse groups.  
  • Preferred Bilingual, in a second language, but not required. 
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning,  Building Principals, and assists PreK-5 ESOL Coordinator

JOB GOAL: Provide leadership, supervision, guidance, and support for the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program as outlined by State ESOL Program Guidance and Federal Title III Compliance.  



  • Coordinate the implementation and management of 6-12 ESOL Program. 
  • Provides leadership for 6-12 grade ESOL Program: instructional coaching, curricular resources, and professional development initiatives. 
  • Experience using and implementing state language proficiency standards and assessment. 
  • Oversees data collection and analysis for planning, scheduling, and the use of language proficiency data alongside district and state level assessments and achievement data to improve the overall achievement of ELL students. 
  • Implements a comprehensive program for increasing English language acquisition and academic achievement. 
  • Collaborates with district staff and provides coaching to integrate effective language acquisition strategies, curricular resources and instruction into all classrooms. 
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and district policies and regulations. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students. 
  • Recruits, interviews, recommends hiring and supervises ESOL instructional personnel, interpreters and translators.  
  • Supports the training of interpreters/translators and the process for scheduling and organizing language access initiatives. 
  • Works to create, promote and encourage programs to assist staff toward a journey of achieving and acquiring ESOL Endorsement or similar certification. 
  • Assists with developing and monitoring budget allocated to the ESOL Department 
  • Represents the District at local, state, and national meetings. 
  • Demonstrates success incorporating culturally-competent strategies and utilizing culturally-responsive communication and engagement strategies with all members of the school community. 
  • Assists the PreK-5 ESOL Coordinator in the development and implementation of short term and long-term plans, policies, and guidelines for the ESOL programs. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Department of Teaching and Learning 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  220 Day contract.   

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
