Winfield Scott Elementary Counselor

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in counseling or social work, a current Kansas teaching license, and a School Counselor endorsement. 

 

This position will provide a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program for all children in grades K-2 to assist students in learning skills needed for academic success and personal/social and career development; plan, conduct, and supervise classroom and group activities; provide responsive services to individuals and small groups; work cooperatively with students, families, teachers, and staff; consult with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance children`s educational, personal/social and career development; support other elementary-level educational programs.

 

Performance responsibilities include:

  • Counsel students with interpersonal social adjustment problems
  • Counsel students with academic or attendance issues
  • Conduct group counseling and classroom counseling sessions
  • Modify counseling program to meet individual student needs
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders (teachers, parents, support staff, administrators, community)
  • Identify students with interpersonal challenges and work with students, teachers, and parents to meet needs
  • Create a positive, inviting, and safe environment
  • Conduct testing and interpret results to help students understand their abilities and achievement
  • Maintain up-to-date student records
  • Recognize and appreciate diversity and individual differences
  • Recognize and provide for individual differences and adjust practice
  • Continuously improve professional skills
  • Lead and organize building Student Improvement Team
  • Serve on building Collaborative Problem Solving Team for student SEL needs

The mission of the Fort Scott Public Schools is to lead in the SUCCESS of each student to become independent, responsible, and productive citizens.

 

Fort Scott has two elementary schools, Winfield Scott - grades K-2 and Eugene Ware - grades 3-5.  Each school`s academic program emphasizes reading, language arts, math, social studies, and science.  The children participate in physical education, vocal music, art, library, and computer labs.

 

Fort Scott also provides a Preschool Center.  The special needs of developmentally delayed preschool children are met.

Fort Scott Middle School serves all district students in grades six, seven, and eight.  A core curriculum of reading, language arts, social studies, math, and science is emphasized through a teaming approach.

 

Fort Scott High School is for students in grades nine through twelve.  The curriculum features a college or career-ready curriculum in a student- centered focused environment.  Students may choose from a variety of electives and enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities and clubs.
