JOB SUMMARY The Elementary Education Program Chair oversees the daily operations of the campus Elementary Education K-6, licensure program. This responsibility falls in two major areas:
Teaching and Advising · The program chair position is a full-time, 9-month appointment, and the chair is expected to carry a teaching load of 12 credits per semester. · The program chair oversees the academic advising of candidates in the field of education in their licensure area. Advisors provide assistance and counsel with educational planning, career choices, personal and spiritual issues. Advisors work individually with candidates in the area of dispositions that may need to be addressed or with specific struggles that a candidate is experiencing. Advisors also complete plans of improvement for candidates who need support areas for overall success.
Administration · The program chair, in cooperation with the Unit Chair, oversees the education faculty in his/her licensure program through faculty recommendations, maintaining files of qualifications, professional development, and service to the profession of faculty, evaluation of faculty, and assisting in the development of faculty goals. · The program chair assists the Supervisor of Student Teaching with the field and clinical placements, cooperating school and teacher’s information and qualifications for the best placement of candidates in the field. · The program chair works in collaboration with the Unit Chair to provide all program information, KSDE reviews, and assessment data for program improvements and updates to increase candidate learning.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS · MSE in education or related field · Hold a valid KSDE professional teaching license · Three or more years of a combination of successful college/university/K-12 teaching and academic administration · Organizational skills to promote collaboration and teamwork with the Teacher Education Department · Capacity to build and maintain academic programming, quality curricula development, and training of candidates and adjuncts with effective teaching content and pedagogy · Knowledge of technology related to teaching and that is used in schools · Effective interpersonal and communication skills · Collegial attitude with the ability to effectively lead teams · Highest levels of integrity and confidentiality · A commitment to the overall mission of Barclay College.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Ph.D. or EdD in Education or related field · Hold a valid KSDE professional teaching license in Elementary Education · Experience with teacher evaluation processes and procedures · Familiarity with Kansas Licensure Requirements
