Elementary Science Teacher

Greenbush - The Education Service Center is seeking applications for an Elementary Science Teacher.

 

Anticipated start date: August 1, 2021. Position will remain open until filled. Equal Opportunity Employer. Must have the legal ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.

 

Job Summary:  The Science Center Educator will be responsible for participating in the development and implementation of hands-on, innovative science programs delivered from the Abernathy Science Education Center. Specific duties will involve the development and delivery of science education programs for all levels conducting parent and/or community programs, and serving as a coach to teachers in member schools.

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. Must hold a current Kansas Teaching License or Initial Teaching Certificate.
  2. Strong background in development and implementation of viable curriculum.
  3. Demonstrated ability to implement best teaching practices.
  4. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing job skills and performance.

Preferred:

  1. Two or more years of teaching experience in an accredited school

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop and implement innovative, hands-on, technology rich learning experiences/labs for delivery from the various Student Enrichment facilities including, but not limited to the Science Education Center, Observatory, Rainforest, Archaeology Dig, Instructional Greenhouse.
  2. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  3. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  4. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  5. Use relevant technology to support instruction
  6. Observe and evaluate student`s performance and development
  7. Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the facility
  8. Participate in department and Greenbush meetings and professional development
  9. Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Must support the Service Center mission, goals, and objectives
  2. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
  3. Must maintain strict confidentiality
  4. Must demonstrate proficiency in ability to produce excellent work as requested by the executive team
  5. Must assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices
  6. Must complete all assignments in a time-sensitive manner as determined by Supervisor
  7. Must meet all safety requirements as directed by the Service Center
  8. Must perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee
  9. Ability to implement and follow all service center health and safety policies, including all precautions of the bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.

Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Enrichment

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
  2. Requires constant standing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching during the delivery of student instruction.
  3. An average of 2-3 evenings per semester for evening work may be required.
  4. An average of 2-3 Saturday work days may be required per semester.
  5. An average of 2-3 overnight travel dates per semester may be required.
  6. Ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds.
