Elementary Science Teacher - Desert Lab at Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet

Reports To:  Building Administrator

 

Position Purpose:  

Williams Magnet features four state-of-the-art science labs- including the rainforest- desert- greenhouse- and space lab.  The students are taught by experts in each of these areas- with a rotating schedule to have an opportunity with each of these labs.

 

The Desert has multiple animals and plants that require intensive upkeep.  This educator will be responsible for the care- maintenance- and feeding of these animals and plants.  Next Generation Science Standards will guide the planning and instruction in this science lab.  The teacher will work with all elementary classrooms from K-5 at Williams Magnet.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must meet Kansas State Department of Education licensure for Elementary Education
  • Prefer emphasis on Science
  • ESOL Endorsement preferred

Physical/Emotional Requirements:

The incumbent may be required to use the following skills and abilities during any part of the working day:

 

Speaking- hearing- visual- reading- writing- word processing- mobility- consistency of temperament- ability to work with a variety of problems at the same time- stamina for working long hours and in stress-producing environments.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Utilize best instructional practices- methods- materials- and technology that have been proven to increase student achievement in Science- with emphasis on Science inquiry-based methodologies.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful- safe- and invigorating Science classroom.
  • Evaluate student work using formative and summative assessments- benchmarks- and other assessments to guide instructional planning and promote student achievement.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers and instructional aides throughout all grade levels on campus to strengthen students` experience of their Science curriculum.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate well to students and staff.
  • Deliver grade-level content standards-based lab courses for students in Grades 1-5 to enrich student understanding and experience of Science content and lab practices.

Terms of Employment:

The term of employment is 9 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

 

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Topeka Public Schools Professional Agreement for Certified Staff.
