Instructional Coach

USD 417 Morris County is seeking applicants for a District Instructional Coach position. The Instructional Coach will assist the school district by substantially and effectively facilitating and providing assistance in developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, instructional models and strategies, including the use of instructional technology, and use of assessments through professional development and continuous coaching with teachers. 

 

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold a Kansas Teaching License.
  2. A Master’s Degree in Instructional Coaching and/or Curriculum and Instruction is preferred but not required.
  3. Demonstrated ability to implement best practices and the motivation to set and achieve high performance levels.
  4. Previous experience in implementing and evaluating effective curriculum design, instructional strategies, and use of assessments.
  5. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing job skills and performance

 

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to work with district teachers on high-impact strategies that improve instruction and student achievement, including classroom management.
  2. Ability to serve as a resource to administrators and other staff members for matters related to high-impact strategies.
  3. Ability to report on the status for programs and services at the request of the superintendent, curriculum director, or admin. team. (i.e. curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development).
  4. Ability to attend and provide professional development for administrators and teachers as requested.

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to design, implement, and provide feedback on effective instruction for district teachers in all content areas, including guiding teacher reflection and goal setting.
  2. Priorities for caseload will be:
    1. Teachers in their first three years of teaching
    2. Experienced teachers who are new to the district.
    3. Teachers who have a goal that needs support identified by their building principal.
    4. If time allows, teachers who self-enroll to support a personal goal.
  3. Schedule and maintain weekly meetings and regular observations with assigned teachers, as well as being available to assigned teachers outside of scheduled times.
  4. Lead and participate in co-planning and co-teaching.
  5. Ability to review and interpret assessment data as needed to determine program effectiveness.
  6. Ability to develop presentations and other public relations tools that can be used by administrators and teachers to communicate instructional and literacy strategies.
  7. Ability to develop a solution to address the need for intervention strategies among special education subgroups, readers not on grade-level, and at-risk students, especially those living in poverty.
  8. Ability to facilitate and/or attend meetings and/or professional learning communities in schools, designed to encourage collaboration among teachers and when building-wide instructional decisions are being discussed.
  9. Ability to keep current on changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing concerns of mutual interest with others in the field.
  10. Communicate system-wide needs with administrators while maintaining confidentiality with assigned teachers.
  11. Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.
  12. Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or Curriculum Director.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
  2. Must travel frequently in personal car or district vehicle.

Terms of Employment: As per the USD 417 negotiated agreement. Contract to include salary, work schedule, and paid time off to be established by the Board of Education.

 

Salary: Salary and Benefits established by the Board of Education

 

Evaluation: Job performance to be evaluated annually by the Curriculum Director with consultation from building principals.

USD 417 Board of Education provides a single health insurance policy that includes dental coverage. The Board also provides a 403b retirement plan to all employees. Salary is based on negotiated agreement and determined by educational level and years of experience. Base salary for a beginning teacher with no experience is $39,587 for the 2021-2022 school year.

Unified School District 417 is located in east-central Kansas in the beautiful Flint Hills region. Our district includes portions of Geary, Wabaunsee, Lyon, and Morris Counties, and is only 30 minutes from both Manhattan and Emporia. It is comprised of two elementary schools and Council Grove Junior Senior High School (3A). The district has an average enrollment of 770 students.
