Maintenance Supervisor

 

Job Goal:  To maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Examines school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance with the primary responsibility for maintenance and cleanliness of buildings and property

2.      Complies with all health, safety, and fire directives of the district and state regulations

3.      Makes long-range plans with the Superintendent for repairs and building and grounds upkeep

4.      Estimates cost of repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead

5.      Advises on the hiring of contractors to perform certain maintenance or repair services

6.      Assigns and supervises crews of craftspeople for maintenance work

7.      Coordinates building custodians in the maintenance of buildings and facilities

8.      Assigns custodian(s) to be present at school functions that are attended by the public

9.      Lays out and inspects work, and assists crew members

10.   Develops a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency

11.   Prepares reports on costs of work done, materials used, labor expended

12.   Orders materials as needed, and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase

13.   Possesses a working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire systems

14.   Performs any additional duties that are requested by the superintendent or building principals

15.   Maintains personnel, maintenance, and inventory records as are required

16.  In conjunction with the administration, recommends and trains people hired for the maintenance

program

 

 

Essential Functions:

3.     Adheres to all Board of Education policies and regulations

4.     Follows all local, state, and federal regulations

5.     Demonstrates appropriate communication skills

6.     Works cooperatively with all employees and patrons

7.     Supervises all students and activities during the assigned work period

8.     Assumes responsibility to repair or report all malfunctioning equipment used in doing the job

9.     Possesses the ability to operate computers, telephones, equipment and tools related to the job

10.  Possesses the ability to perform all performance responsibilities listed in the Job Description

11.  Is certified or willing to get certified to drive a school bus or district vehicle on urban or country roads

12.  Physical ability to enter and exit the rear vehicle emergency door rapidly

13.  Physical ability to exit the driver`s seat rapidly and in case of emergency open the rear emergency door

14.  Has the ability to handle stress from staff, students, and job responsibilities

15.  Works at ground level and at heights

16.  Has the ability to work independently without direct supervision

17.   Must live within a 15 minutes drive of the main building in Greensburg

 

 

Physical Requirements:

1.     Very rarely requires exertion beyond walking

2.     Over 50% of the time, requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy* objects or materials

3.     In addition to #2 occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds

4.     Occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials

5.     Maybe in a position to have to administer First Aid or CPR.

6.     Frequently requires the operation of two-way communication equipment.

7.     Frequently requires skilled use of power equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, mowers, trimmers, hand tools, etc.)

8.     Occasionally requires using step ladders, extension ladders, scaffolding, and lifts up to 30’                

 

*“Heavy” means not over 50 pounds.

Kiowa County High School is a large 1A school in the Southern Plains-Iroquois Activities Association.  Our new state-of-the-art K-12 school was opened in 2010 in Greensburg, KS.  Students attend our high school from the communities of Greensburg, Haviland, and Mullinville.  USD 422 has one-to-one laptops for students grades 3-12.  Classrooms are outfitted with Promethean Panels.  Kiowa County is a great place to raise a family.
