Special Education Support Coach

The TBLSEC (Tonganoxie Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative) is accepting applications for a Special Education Support Coach for the 2021-2022 school year. 

 

Candidates must have a valid Kansas High Incidence &/or Low Incidence Special Education teaching license, or a Kansas School Psychologist license and a minimum of 5 years working with students with disabilities. Advanced knowledge and skills in the implementation of research-based instructional and behavioral interventions in a special education environment for students with both low incidence and high incidence disabilities is required. Knowledge in IDEA requirements and procedures is preferred. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 (Candidates must possess) 

  1. A Kansas Low Incidence and/or High Incidence Special Education license, or a Kansas School Psychologist license 
  2. A Master’s degree or higher in Special Education or related field 
  3. Extensive knowledge of applying IDEA requirements and procedures 
  4. A minimum 5 years of experience successfully working with students with disabilities 
  5. Evidence of leadership skills 
  6. Advanced knowledge and skill in the implementation of research-based instructional and behavioral interventions in a special education                environment for students with both low incidence and high incidence disabilities 
  7. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate regarding special education practices and to coach and support staff and teacher colleagues 
  8. A valid Kansas driver’s license, automobile insurance and personal vehicle for required travel throughout the geographic area of the TBLSEC

 

REPORTS TO: 

Special Education Administrators and Building Principals 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Education Support Coach will work with new and struggling special education teachers to strengthen their ability to deliver instruction in a variety of ways in order to increase the outcomes for students with disabilities, and support IEP paperwork compliance with IDEA requirements and procedures.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Provide coaching and feedback to help teachers implement interventions with fidelity to meet student learning and behavioral goals. 

2. Assist teachers and support staff in using research-based strategies, universal design for learning and differentiated instruction. 

3. Facilitate professional learning opportunities that promote achievement for all students. 

4. Lead in the development, adoption and implementation of special education curriculum and curricular materials. 

5. Work with teachers in the development and implementation of effective classroom management strategies and positive behavior supports. 

6. Consult with teachers to provide resources for targeted intervention to students to ensure high levels of learning. 

7. Provide support to teacher in developing IDEA compliant IEPs. 

8. Participate in continuous growth opportunities to deepen knowledge in curricular, instructional and leadership practice. 

9. Conduct informal classroom observations and provide immediate non-evaluative feedback for the purpose of instructional support and program improvement. 

10. Serve on the TBLSEC Leadership Team. 

11. Maintain appropriate confidentiality with records and professional relationships. 

12. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or the Assistant Director of Special Education.

Basehor-Linwood Unified School District 458 serves students and families in a 90 square mile area of southern Leavenworth County, Kansas. K-12 students attend one of six district attendance centers. K-5 buildings are located in Linwood, Basehor and the Glenwood Ridge subdivision. Students in grades 6, 7 and 8 attend Basehor-Linwood Middle School in Basehor, near the center of the district. Basehor-Linwood High School, located in Basehor, is a 5A school, serving students in grades 9 through 12.

BLHS was named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School. In addition, the district operates Basehor-Linwood Virtual School, an internet-based school serving approximately 250 K-12 students statewide.
